The Prevalence of Sexual Assault

Sexual Assault is a violation of the body, mind and soul.  It is about Power and Control not the act of sex itself.  In Texas, 1 in 5 women and 1 in 20 men will be sexually assaulted at some point in their lifetime.  The sad reality is that some victims never get justice and most do not report.
Who are the Perpetrators?  Over 80% of sexual assaults are committed by someone known to the victim.  Over 94% of rapists roam free with only 3% ever spending a day in jail.  According to a study more than 60% of non-stranger rapists offended more than once.
Things that you can do:
  •     Stop an offensive joke about sexual assault.
  •     Create non-tolerance for rape.
  •     Blame the rapist not the victim.
  •     Believe the Victim.
Society teaches don't get raped, rather than don't rape.  Only 18% of sexual assaults in Texas are reported to law enforcement....thus the rapist in over 80% of rape cases remain undetected.
The Crisis Center is thankful to be able to work with Criminal District Attorney Richard Glaser and his staff, County Judge Carter, Civil County Judge Butler, Police Chief Mike Bankston and the Bonham Police Department, Sheriff Donnie Foster of the Sheriff and the sheriff's department , and the police departments located in the cities of Fannin County in helping the sexual assault victims in Fannin County.
Support your local D.A.'s office, Police and Sheriff's as well as your local Crisis Center in their efforts to combat sexual assault and to bring the rapist to justice.
